SCALING CORPORATE INNOVATION

Innovation is no longer an option for companies – it’s a must. Because customer expectations, their needs, the markets, and technology change faster than ever so must the mindset, business models, and methodology of the organization. Companies must evolve, or they will become redundant and eventually disappear like we have seen with dozins of Fortune 500 businesses. Using innovation for progress and growth is not new. The new is how to go about the transformation – from knowing it’s the thing to do to doing it.

Many companies have over the recent years tried to anchor innovation in labs/units/garages, etc. to accelerate development processes and move the organization forward. Many of these companies have also experienced the difficulties in doing so. A more structural approach is needed to create long-lasting in-house innova­tion because applying innovative methods to single projects or departments is not the same as scaling it. In fact, up to 90 % of all innovation labs fail within two years according to Business Insider.

And even though an infusion of agile innovation tools may be the best answer to what the company needs to rethink products, services, and customer experience – it might not be the only right answer.
